November: All Souls...
November: Thanksgiving...
The month begins with the feasts of All Saints on Nov. 1 and All Souls on Nov. 2. What if...All Saints and All Souls was one feast. What if...Halloween (All holy eve) was the beginning, the vigil, of this one feast. It's all about the Communion of Saints, you know. The "official" saints along with the "unofficial" saints, our loved ones who have gone before us to the other side of life. They're all the communions of saints. These two days and this month is about celebrating THEM. What if...we here on earth were added to that mix of folks in the communion of saints. We are, you know. We are in the communion of saints. The Church's understanding of the Communion of Saints has developed quite rapidly in recent years and is much more inclusive than originally believed. So that long line of people coming to Communion each week-that's the Communion of Saints too, coming to be fed at the Table of the Lord, coming to receive strength for the journey. So here's a thought: why not put pictures/prayer cards of your departed loved ones out on a table or desk during this month of the saints. Celebrate them, remember them, pray to them. Remember we're all one. What a great gift, this communion of saints!
