HAPPY NEW YEAR! A few suggestions that might be offered at this time of year: you could call them “tips in raising your family Catholic.” If you don’t already have one, now is the time to go out and purchase a nativity set to put out next Christmas season. J.F. Morrow’s on Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago has a variety of nativity sets. While you’re at it, replenish your set of Advent candles for your family Advent wreath at a more reasonable rate than waiting till next Advent. Someone asked me recently where to purchase an Advent wreath. Any wreath will do or go out to your bushes/trees and cut off some greens to put around four candles in holders. That’s what we do at our house. A house blessing on the January 3 feast of the Epiphany (Three Kings) is a wonderful tradition. And make sure you have at least one cross/crucifix in a prominent place your home. After all, the new year is a great time to review some of what it takes to raise our kids Catholic.
